CLI agent
Claude Code
Anthropic's AI coding agent. It reads your project, edits files and runs commands from your terminal, while you steer in plain English.
No free tier MCP support
Pricing
Needs a paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Ultra, Team or Enterprise), a Claude Console account (pay-as-you-go API credits), or access through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry. The free claude.ai plan does not include Claude Code. See Anthropic's pricing page for current prices.
Pros
- Works across a whole project, not just the file you have open
- Supports MCP servers, skills, CLAUDE.md project memory, hooks and subagents
- Asks permission before it changes things
- Native installer for macOS, Linux and Windows
Cons
- Lives in the terminal, so there is a learning curve if you have never used one
- No free plan: you need a paid subscription or API credits
