Key differences
Setup. Bolt needs no local setup, and Plan Mode lets you discuss an idea before code is written. Cline needs an editor and an AI provider key or credits.
Control. Cline asks for approval before edits and commands by default, and tracks changes with checkpoints. Bolt's free tokens can run out quickly on bigger projects, and larger apps may need developer help.
Who should pick what
- You want an app live without coding setup: Bolt.
- You have code and want an agent in your editor: Cline.
Our verdict
Bolt is the quick idea-to-app route. Cline is for people working directly with code. See also Bolt vs Cursor.
